Book Properties

ISBN: 0849321271
Title: Operations Research Calculations Handbook
Author: Dennis Blumenfeld
Publisher: CRC
Publication Date: 2001-06-27
Number Of Pages: 216

Editorial Description

The field of Operations Research (OR) covers a wide range of mathematical topics, and because it is so broad, results and formulas are scattered widely throughout the literature. As the field continues to grow, OR students and practitioners need a one-stop source for the results relevant to their work. This book meets that need.

The Operations Research Calculations Handbook meets that need. It contains more than 300 results in a single, concise volume. Organized by topic and listed in a convenient summary format, it allows readers to have frequently used results at their fingertips. Although based on the author's experience in the manufacturing industry, many of the results are basic to system modeling. They carry over easily to applications in other areas of operations research and management science.

On what basis did you choose your engineering specialty?
On what basis did you choose your engineering specialty?

Best engineering disciplines

How do i choose the right engineering specialization?
Because of the many questions and inquiries from many colleagues about the best engineering disciplines in terms of future career and the demand for specialization I love to devote a topic to discuss the subject !

I passed trough such questions and I looked for answers until I got to something that convinced me completely.

I will post my personal opinion and the information I got during my research

As for the engineering disciplines and according to my knowledge and the research that I have done in the previous period and from the experiences of some friends working in large industrial companies, including my older brother :

I have been convinced that

1 - the most comprehensive and broadest areas of employment in the following order:

A) Electrical Engineering.
B) Mechanical Engineering.
C) Civil Engineering.
D) Industrial Engineering.

2 - the precise and excellent disciplines in terms of salaries, but the problem that the field of work is somewhat narrow:

A) Chemical engineering.
B) Communications Engineering.
C) Electronics Engineering.
D) Architecture.
E) Adaptation and cooling engineering
F) Medical Engineering.

3 - excellent specialties in terms of salaries and advantages, but the field of work is limited to limited parties:

A) Petroleum Engineering.
B) Flight Engineering.
C) Marine Engineering.

how to choose your engineering specialty?

No doubt you have heard about free and important courses that international universities have launched on the internet  for free, do not you? To be sure, we have shared articles on some of these lessons and courses offered by the world's top universities.

Over the past six years, more than 8,000 online courses have been published in all fields by more than 800 universities around the world.

Over the past three months, more than 200 universities have announced the availability of 600 free online courses. The following are examples of these online courses:
Mathematics
computer science
Data Science

How to convert the VAR1 variable to VAR2 and vice versa without the need for an auxiliary variable
Converting the VAR1 variable to VAR2 and vice versa without the need for an auxiliary variable

Example: We have variable 1 and value 10 and variable 2 value 20 and we want to put the value of the first variable in the second variable and the value of the second variable in the first variable

Most programmers rely on the following method:

;int var1,var2,helper
 ;var1 = 10
;var2 = 20
;helper = var1
;var1 = var2
;var2 = helper

The second method I will write does not need the helper variable so we can only work with var1 var2

;int var1,var2
;var1 = 10
;var2 = 20
;var1 = var1+var2
 ;var2 = var1 - var2
 ;var1 = var1 - var

Best of luck

For the preparatory year students who have a number of questions about the chemical engineer, this is some basic information about chemical engineer and its relation to chemist

Who is the Chemical Engineer?
It is true that a chemical engineer has a knowledge about chemistry but they do much more than just manufacture chemicals.
In fact, the term chemical engineering does not describe the nature of the work of a chemical engineer. But this branch deals directly with chemicals and this makes this specialty different from other engineering disciplines.
All engineers employ physics, mathematics and engineering arts to solve technical problems while not neglecting the economic aspect. Chemical engineers employ their chemical knowledge to solve many problems. Never confuse the chemical engineer with the chemist

Here's a comparison between chemist and chemical engineer:

  • Chemist

1 - dealing with small quantities
2. Concerns about why and how chemical reactions occur
3 - Determination of the need for reaction to the work of the chemical and mechanical occurrence
4- Interested in microscopic level
5. Design small scales to test chemical reactions
6. Does not pay much attention to the cost of producing chemicals

7. He may work alone

  • Chemical Engineer

1 - deals with products in huge quantities
2 - Interested in how to make the production in large quantities
3. Design and operate the reactor that makes the chemical and other related units
4- Interested in microscopic level
5. Design plans for chemical plants
6 - cares about the economy (saving) and profitability of the process
7-Must work within a team
